Adding a printer 2026-07-13 22:32 Lee Kierstead 1784003571

These are the usual ways I would add a printer for a user. This is assuming manual adding rather than through an automated method like a Group Policy Object.

This is also assuming it is not connected with a USB wire. If it is, the computer should automatically see it.

Method 1

  1. Go to printers and scanners in Settings
  2. Select Add Printer, it will do an initial scan on the network
  3. If it sees it, select the option to add it and you're done
  4. If it doesn't select Add Printer Manually
  5. Select the option that says TCP/IP Device
  6. Enter in the IP address of the printer (assuming you have this)

Method 2

  1. Find out what server the printer is hosted on
  2. Go to the UNC path of the machine in File Explorer
  3. All folders and printers that are available there will show
  4. Right click the printer and select Connect
